It is with great
respect for those who have served our communities for
many years that I am running for the office of State
Senate in the 36th District. The District includes all
of Greenwich, the northern half of Stamford and the
northwestern half of New Canaan.
We have all
deliberately chosen Connecticut to live, raise our
families and, for many of us, work because we have a
distinct appreciation for the quality of our
neighborhoods, our schools, our park systems and our
well run municipalities.
Unfortunately,
Connecticut is facing increasingly difficult challenges
in the areas of the budget, transportation and education
that affect us all. Having worked with your legislators
and Governor for many years in the areas of economic
development and air transportation, I am convinced that
I can have a positive impact on our District and State.
For this reason I have decided to run for this seat to
further the work of our great State Senator, Bill
Nickerson, and others who believe in fighting for what
makes Connecticut great.
I believe strongly
that government should always be run by the people and
for the people with a focus on fiscal responsibility,
low taxes, accountability, caring for the neediest,
responsiveness and the empowerment of individuals,
families and traditional institutions. Government
growing beyond its means and reaching too far in its
capacity to regulate is government that the hard working
and caring people of our district simply do not need.
If successful, I
would work passionately and diligently to keep our
government growth in check, to make government programs
as efficient as possible and to assure that a
balanced budget is growing at a rate in line with
the consumer price index. |

RTC CHAIRMAN’S LETTER
OCTOBER 2008
The upcoming November
4 election presents all Americans with the most critical of
choices. From the top of the ticket to the bottom, voters must
choose among candidates and parties with vastly different
philosophies of government, and vastly different ideas about
vital issues such as national security.
As you cast your
vote, keep in mind that the result of every single election
(whether at the Federal or State level) has real and lasting
consequences.
The Republican Party
stands for responsible, common sense government at all levels.
Government which is not overly large, overly costly and overly
intrusive. Government which is not an adversary to the private
sector. Government financed by a tax system which rewards
private initiative and productive citizens.
The Republican Party
has demonstrated that it will defend America and the nation’s
strategic national interests. We live unfortunately in a
dangerous world. Our foreign policy must be guided by this
reality. Naďve domestic and foreign policies, however well
intentioned, will disadvantage this country, and ultimately
could prove fatal to many Americans.
Please join us in
supporting the Republican ticket. Your vote will help decide
which policies are implemented, whether in Washington or in
Hartford.
Sincerely,
johnraben@optonline.net

GREENWICH
REPUBLICAN
STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES
Fiscal Responsibility
and Accountability:
We will safeguard town services
while assuring our residents of modest and
predictable property taxes.
Educational Excellence:
Our highly regarded public
schools must prepare our children for
lifelong learning in an increasingly
competitive global economy and an evolving
technological environment. We will strive to
continually improve the delivery of an
excellent academic education to all children
in our schools.
Neighborhood
Character and Environment:
We support measured development consistent
with the character of our neighborhoods that
will ensure Greenwich’s future as a vibrant
community. Maintaining our schools,
libraries, parks, beaches, and community
centers will continue to provide the
foundation for our neighborhoods.
Open and
Transparent Government:
We will be accessible and accountable to all
Greenwich residents.
Support
for our Emergency Services:
We will provide the most
responsive and well-trained Police
Department, Fire Department, and GEMS to
protect our families. |
